The Manuscript Experience

Develop your story with expert editing and creative direction.

  • To start our work together, I’ll schedule an in-person or video call meeting to discuss your book project.

During this session, we’ll map out your book’s main objectives and dive into your vision and any key messages you want to convey.

  • Together, we’ll outline the events you want to cover in your book and decide on a structure that best serves your story.

  • Once you’ve started writing your book, we’ll better understand how each chapter should unfold. We’ll discuss chapter length and how your story will transition.

  • After reviewing your current priorities, we’ll create a realistic writing schedule that fits your life. We’ll review your current habits to see where we can incorporate consistent writing time.

  • We’ll schedule weekly or biweekly check-ins based on your goals and availability. These short meetings will allow you to ask questions and keep you on track with your writing schedule.

  • I’ll schedule interviews with you and anyone you want to include in your book.

For example, this could mean gathering stories from family members, friends, and close neighbours for a family history book.

A company history book could involve business partners, board members, or essential stakeholders.

All in-person and phone interviews will be recorded and transcribed for the writing and editing phase.

  • After completing the interview process, I’ll collect all relevant photographs from you and your book’s contributors.

When I return your original photos, I’ll include a USB drive containing the scanned high-resolution, retouched, and print-ready files.

  • Ghostwriting typically follows the interview process. After completing your comprehensive interviews, I will transcribe them and write them into a flowing storyline.

You will have a chance to review the first draft before editing begins.

  • Developmental editing, also known as content and structural editing, focuses on improving your book's overall content and structure.

During this process, we make significant cuts, decide where to add detail and review the story structure.

  • The last stage after editing is the final proofreading of the entire document to catch any inconsistencies, redundancies, typos and grammatical mistakes.

  • Before beginning the design phase, we’ll confirm your book’s design style by deciding on your book’s size and cover style.

Once confirmed, a professional book designer will create a thoughtful layout, allowing your stories to unfold naturally and ensuring smooth transitions between chapters.

  • If you plan to sell your book publicly, I’ll help you acquire an ISBN, connect you with distributors, and walk you through the process of self-publishing.

  • Book Printing is not included in any of the package pricing.

The book printing cost will vary greatly depending on your book’s size, page count, and print run (quantity).

I work with several printers depending on my client’s preferences and needs.

Not sure if a book is the best way to preserve your stories?Consider gifting a Legacy Wall Display.

Framed collage with text and vintage black-and-white and color photos. Includes portraits and candid images of a woman at various stages of life, with descriptive text about her personal history titled 'I was Born During the Dirty Thirties.'

The Legacy Wall Display is a way to honour that extraordinary person in your life who has gone above and beyond for everyone they’ve met.

“The whole family really enjoyed learning more about Grandma through her own words. I love how well the story and photos painted a bigger picture of her life.

Before commissioning a Legacy Wall Display piece, I was concerned whether it would be too large for a gift—it wasn’t—it was the perfect size! I would recommend a Legacy Wall Display to anyone looking for an anniversary or commemorative gift for someone special.”
